Utagawa Kuniyoshi es uno de los últimos grandes talentos del ukiyo-e clásico. Su prolífica obra se caracteriza por un fluido dinamismo, un intenso uso del color y una creatividad sorprendente. Abordó con maestría los temas clásicos del grabado japonés: samuráis, geishas, paisajes, leyendas... y gatos.
