AA.VV
Genius and figure is a popular expression in Castilian Spanish that sums up the combination of creative temperament and innate elegance, and is also the title given by the Spanish Ministry of Culture to a major exhibition in which Spanish art enters into a dialogue with international fashion. In this catalogue, the genius is popular culture and the great painters (Goya, Velzquez, Miro, Picasso, etc), and the figure is the designs of those outstanding creators of the fashion world (Balenciaga, Coco Chanel, Dior, Lacroix, etc) that have on some occasion been inspired by the Spanish style in designing their collections. All of the pieces on show in the exhibition, both the clothes and the artworks, are featured in this book in reproductions of the highest photographic quality, and complemented by texts by leading specialists that offer a variety of perspectives on the influence that the Spanish style exercised on the great fashion designers.
