Helmut Newton dijo una vez: “La fotografía de algunas personas es un arte. La mía no. Si a ellos les ocurre ser exhibidos en una galería o un museo, está bien. Pero eso no es por lo que las hago. Yo soy un pistolero de alquiler” (Newsweek, 02/02/04).



Esta declaración prosaica de uno de los fotógrafos más celebrados del siglo XX puede resultar un poco chocante, pero sin embargo sitúa firmemente a Newton en la posición del creador de imágenes sin florituras que fue. Su obra es tan potente, tan llamativa, que desafía las categorías. Al rechazar llamarla “arte”, Newton nos deja libres para hacerlo, y a juzgar por la cantidad de exposiciones en museos y galerías que han mostrado su obra, está claro que la opción ha sido ampliamente ejercida.



Este libro reúne una selección de trabajos del catálogo de moda de Newton desde tan temprano como 1962 hasta 2003 y sus últimas fotografías editoriales para Vogue EE UU e Italia, todas obras que hizo como “pistolero de alquiler”
