HOLLIS, RICHARD / BARKHATOVA
he 1917 Russian revolution was built with symbols. The Bolsheviks who took power under the red flag, adopted the armys red star, and united workers and peasants in the sign of the hammer and the sickle. A semi-literate society was to be transformed through symbols, mages, slogans and texts. The chief medium was the poster. Here a selection of 100 posters by different graphic designers and artists from the constructivist period are presented.
